A very ambitious gimmick this show had, even if it seemed to have its compromises, such as with posability. Also, is it just me, or did we not see very many combiners after this toyline, up until Combiner Wars? I can't help but imagine the pressure on the toy designers making a bunch of Transformers that are able to combine two different ways with any others.

Say what you want about Energon as a series, the gimmick with these toys made it feel like they were all a team because they needed to be, and found comradery with each other because they had to. And may I remind you that these characters are at WAR with the deceptions, so this is actually really cool as both a gimmick and a plot device! I've heard it said many ways, but I think we all know this one phrase in some way: you either live together, or die alone. The Autobots chose to work together so they can live. The decepticons didn't, and look were that got them.
